Oh god, shelving books... I'd have to say something about this topic, as I'm often referred to as having OCD when it comes to books and stationaries. When I moved a couple years ago, I spent days just packing and unpacking my books. I have 3 bookshelves, and tons of books, here's my little OCD-system...

First, I separate everything by language (I read books in 3 different languages), and then by type. I've a lot of manga (Japanese comic books), so they go together, novels also go together, magazines and then other non-fiction books, with a special section for cookbooks/cooking related books.

And then, I organize them by height. (Yes, height... and yes, OCD...) The taller ones will go on the very left, and the books will descend in height as they go to the right side of the shelve. They are also organized by author, and series. So if I have books of different sizes of the same author, I get into trouble.

My solution? Buy the same size books from the same author. If I started off the series with Mass Market Paperbacks, I will not be buying hardcovers...

Yes, OCD.

I'm still waiting for that one place where I'll be able to have all my books out of storage and on the shelves. I've been waiting for nearly 25 years now, but I'm still hoping to make it happen someday! Hope you don't have to wait quite so long.

I have my books organized by how I got them, because almost all of them are to be read. Most of the books I've already finished are on loan to someone.
