I read Zoe first, so didn’t have that Scalzi writing = man issue, but then I still haven’t finished the series yet, so it might come. (I don’t like to finish series that I really love – I don’t want them to be done, so I just save a book or two for, like, forever. Such a dork.)

These books do sound interesting. The last time I read a series of books that depicts the same incident but different viewpoints, I was really disappointed in one of them. But I might give these a try.

This reminds me that I really need to read THE GHOST BRIGADES and THE LAST COLONY. I got a big kick out of both ZOE’S TALE and OLD MAN’S WAR, (which I read out of order), and Scalzi’s definitely on my list of authors I want to read again.

I’m not a big SF fan, but you’re review has made me at least consider this series. I love series and great characters.

I thought it was because I’d read the whole trilogy and am a frequent reader of his blog and twitter feed. He has a very distinctive style and it felt weird for me to associate that with a girl for a few pages until I got more into Zoe’s character. I don’t think I would have had any issues if Zoe’s Tale was my first book by him.

I’m curious to know what you mean by “his writing = a man”. Maybe it’s because I read Zoe’s Tale first and then again a while after I read the others, but I’ve never had any trouble thinking of that book’s protagonist as female.

I don’t read much sci-fi, but these books actually sound interesting to me.
