Even though I have dozens of books I’d love to read right now, somehow I still have issues when staring at the many books I have to read. I just can’t decide which to choose and nothing is calling to me particularly strongly. I solved this issue in part when I found the sixth Sookie Stackhouse book in the library yesterday, but very shortly I’m going to be confronted by my indecision again. I reinstated my policy of rotating my oldest TBR books, review books, and then library books, just making a pile now, but it’s too dark for a picture. I’ll try to compare next week and see how far I get. My next book is The Foundling by Georgette Heyer, though, and I’m looking forward to it very much. Do you ever suffer from TBR indecision?
My Nanowrimo novel is still going very well. At last count I had around 31,000 words. I haven’t been working on it today, but this is only my second day off all month. At this rate, I will be nearly finished by next Sunday, especially because I made an essential discovery this week. The way I now write is vastly different from the way I used to write. I was a seat-of-the-pants writer, letting the story unfold as it would and as I went along. I can’t do this any more. I found it hard to just write without knowing where I was going and I found it stressful to try and put my characters into situations that would allow them to interact the way they wanted. So I sat down for a few minutes and plotted out the second half of my story. Suddenly the joy is back and it’s just as fun as it was in the beginning, when I did have a plan for how it was going to start. I’m not sure why this change has happened, but I do know I’m going to plot out all my writing from now on. I’m not sure if academics caused this or if I just like to have a plan these days, but I have a lot more confidence in finishing this thing now.
That’s about all that’s new from me this week; not much is going on in my life so nothing more interesting to report! I do hope everyone has a great week, though, with a wonderful book or two to read.
My problem with picking the next book to read is too many are calling my name.

I am often in the same boat, Meghan. Having so many choices is great on the one hand, but on the other it makes deciding what to read next much more difficult, especially when there are several that sound especially appealing.
You are making great progress with NaNoWriMo! My husband says he’ll be happy just to get 10,000 in this month. He’s having a hard time finding the motivation to write. Unfortunately for me, he’s let me peek at what he’s done so far and I liked it so much that now I’m impatient for him to write more. LOL Even that encouragement hasn’t helped him either though. He just has to go at his own pace. I’m just glad he’s writing again.

Yes, plenty of times. I usually resolve my TBR indecision by just selecting one (no reading the back again or comparing covers) and being decisive about it. This system works to an extent but if I select a book and look at the cover and it’s a cover that has been in my pile for a while I will probably put it back and try to remember where I stashed the newer books. lol
I LOVE The Foundling! One of my favorite Heyers. I plan to re-read it next year. hope you enjoy it

OOH I am looking forward to your Heyer review!!! I always fly by the seat of my pants as far as my review deadlines go, so that’s how I have to prioritize my reads. The later publication date gets pushed ahead even if I would prefer to read it now. I have somehow started to accumulate review books again even after I thought I put a ban on it.. when did that happen!!

I have done this so many times. I pick a book from my TBR shelf and drop it somewhere 20 pages from the start and read something else. This is the reason my TBR keeps turning into a mountain:)

Sometimes I am indecisive about what to read next as well. Rotating seems to work well for me though and there are so many books I have received recently that I really want to read that it hasn’t been a problem for me for the past month or two at least.

I hate when that happens to me too! Book indecision is one of the most annoying thing. I had the same thing this weekend after reading “Wintergirls”. I read the first few pages of so many book and I’m still not sure which one I’m reading!
Hopefully you’ll feel more decisive once you finish that 6th Sookie. Or maybe you can read the 7th?

Good going with your novel, it’s important to have the joy I think. TBR indecision seems to dominate my reading at the mo and I’m sure some people would point to this as an example of us having too many choices, but they are the kind of people who pick plain chocolate icecream when there are 100 flavours on offer – we don’t need to listen to them.
