I've noticed that a few books I didn't initially like, I liked the second time around because it was my own choice to read the book instead of on a list of required reading for school or a book club. I agree about the Grapes of Wrath…you might really consider giving it another try. And sometimes I think it might not just be the time to read a certain book.
