I've noticed that a few books I didn't initially like, I liked the second time around because it was my own choice to read the book instead of on a list of required reading for school or a book club. I've also noticed that I pick up on new things the second time through.

Thanks for stopping by and participating in Thingers last week! I've got the post up for this week, have you seen the new customizable widgets on LT? ~ Wendi

I've never been a big Steinbeck fan, but I haven't read The Grapes of Wrath. My mother-in-law read it and didn't like it, and I trust her opinion. I'm sorry to hear that the other series didn't work out for you - it stinks when that happens!

I agree about the Grapes of Wrath...you might really consider giving it another try. And sometimes I think it might not just be the time to read a certain book.

My least fav. is "Crime & Punishment." I've tried it several times and just can't get into it. "Grapes of Wrath" is quite good. Now that you're older you should give it another go.

I definitely think you'd enjoy "Grapes of Wrath" if you reread it - and I think you should! I love Steinbeck's long novels. Now just to find a space in your TBR pile...

I'm sure you would enjoy those old required readings more today. I've never heard of Gardens of the Moon. I will definitely avoid it if I see it now.
