Hummm, I’m not quite sure if my first comment when to spam or just disappeared. Anyway, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the number of WWII books but it’s an era I’m interested in. I’ll keep this one in mind.

I love the history surrounding World War II and especially stories told from the point of view of the ordinary people caught up in it. But you are certainly right that there are just too many of these books now, so have to be real special to stand out from the crowd. This does sound like one to consider.

I agree with you. I read so many WWII fiction that they all start to blend together that they have to do something different to stand out. This one I do want to read though just to see what all the buzz is about.

I think that right now I’m in a point of life and reading where a WWII book has to be, as you say “earth shattering” for me to pick it up.

I will be reading this book at some point soon, and was glad to have read your thoughtful analysis on it. It sounds like a very interesting read, though I have sort of burnt out on WWII, so I appreciate your view that this one tells a slightly different story. Thanks for the excellent review!

I am sorry to hear you didn’t like this as much as you were hoping. I am glad it is still worthwhile, though, because I have been curious about it.
