I have heard others have had a similar reaction to this book as yourself, and based on the reviews I have read, I don't think this is the book for me.I am not greatly intrigued by the subject matter, and finding out the characters are unlikable pretty much ties it up for me. Thanks for your honest review on this book.

I've been wanting to read The Widow of the South for quite some time now. I've heard some great things about it and my mom especially kept telling me how much she was enjoying it as she read it. A Separate Coountry sounds good too and I am a sucker for New Orleans, but since I already have Widow of the South, I'll probably read that first and see how much I enjoy Hicks as an author before moving on to any of his other books.

Did you read his other novel, The Widow of the South? That was pretty good, but those characters were pretty similar to your descriptions of the ones in this novel.
