I haven't read any of the Canongate Myth Series, but I'm not a huge fan of short stories either (I always want more!). I'm not a fan of McCall Smith, so I'd pass on that one too. But regardless, I might look into these.

I haven't even heard of the Canongate Myths, so I think I'll pass on this one. Your comment about the ending reminded me of the movie Haxan, though.

I LOVE the Canongate Myth Series - my favourites so far are Girl Meets Boy by Ali Smith and Dream Angus by Alexander McCall Smith. I thought that Atwood's The Penelopiad and Jeanette Winterson's Weight were excellent too. And the Pullman! This one sounds unusual, but if I approach it expecting something a bit different I think I might enjoy it.

This does sound interesting to me, though a bit unusual. I have never really heard the myth of Baba Yaga, but I like the fact that at the end of the book there is a little bit of dissection and criticism to help guide me. I am going to be adding this one to my wish list and I will have to let you know what I think!
