I enjoyed Bitter Sweets too. I have just read Corner Shop and think that it’s even better – moving, funny, sad, and so ironically a lot more “bittersweet” (sorry!).

I’m glad the book picked up for you (I haven’t read it yet).

Interesting that two commenters indicate that Farroki’s *Corner Shop* doesn’t meet this level.

I felt the opposite way about this one. I enjoyed the story but felt like the ending was a letdown. For me, it was too neat and tidy a way to wrap up a potentially complex set of stories. I’ve just finished reading her next book Corner Shop for review later this week and found it pretty “meh.”

Good review! I read this a while ago and enjoyed it, for the most part. Farroki’s follow-up isn’t so promising, though…
