I almost purchased this books a couple of weeks ago at the used bookstore. I decided against it because I knew I was not in the mood for a depressing book. I will definitely read it one day -- your review has convinced me of that.

There is another book after this one that continues the story, called Falling Leaves, and I do have that one on my shelf, but I was unaware until just recently that this book was the first half of the story. I am going to have to grab a copy of this one, so that I can get the full story. Great review! It sounds like this was a very hard story to swallow, but definitely one with merit!

I didn't realize she had a YA memoir. I read her adult memoir, Falling Leaves, in HS and absolutely loved it. That was probably ten years ago and it still resonates with me.

I have to read this book! I love memoirs in general and this one seems like a simply a must-read. Thanks for reviewing it because otherwise I wouldn't have known about it as I don't generally pay attention to middle grade books.
