I think lots of people become interested with their ethnic heritage when they’re young and trying to define themselves. She really should have known better than to go blabbing about someone who wants to escape from China, though. Duh.

I think this one sounds fascinating and like something that I would really enjoy. I haven’t read much about the cultural revolution, and up to this point, haven’t really felt the need to, but your review of this book changes all that. I need to find out more about this story, and perhaps start focusing a little bit more on this aspect of history. Thanks for the very enticing review. I am off to check this book out!

Sounds like a great place to learn about Chinese history. I find factual books a little too heavy to read – love having a story woven in.

I don’t seem to have read much about modern China and this one looks like a great place to start.
