Interesting…have you read Jean Plaidy (I am sure you have). One of her books also deals with the same subject matter … I think it was called “The Revolt of the Eaglets”. I remember it as being quite lively and I quickly got interested in this period of English history

I have read all of Ms Penman’s books and have enjoyed every one. I am 2/3 through the Devil’s Brood and my only disappointment is that it will end soon and I will have to wait another few years for her next novel.

Thanks for a great review. I have read all of SKP’s previous novels, and Devil’s Brood has been ordered. I was pleased to note in your review that the fictional character of Ranulf is part of this novel.

I have While Christ and His Saints Slept and I really need to read that. I don’t mind a little slow in a historical novel because I like to take in the history. I really think I’d like this series. Thanks for the great review!

I’m about 2/3 of the way through it. Great review and I like what you said about Penman making you feel for characters you wouldn’t have ordinarily liked – I think that’s a great way of summing of her style of writing.

This book is on my bookshelf right now, waiting to be read! She definitely gives you a more or less accurate picture of what the middle ages were like.

This most definitely does *not* move fast. But I’m almost done, and I’m loving it, too. There is an oddity in writing style that threw me for a bit until I got used to it. I will be going back and reading the others in this series for certes! But, as I said in my posting today, I need something shorter with larger print first.
