A number of books that I read a few years ago made me switch to being a vegetarian. Once i learned where my food comes from, and especially how it is slaughtered, I had a tough time with looking at the food on my plate the same way again. I haven't read this one, but I might have to pick this one up.

I appreciate the books that educate versus preach -- I know that when I say I'm a vegetarian, people think I immediately get preachy. But it's not my way to impose my thoughts on someone else when it comes to nutrition, but I enjoy the books that are available to remind people that McDonald's and other quick and fast options are not the right way to go.

I recently read Food Rules by the same author and I thought he made a lot of sense. I do try to eat a good diet, but must confess that we eat out far too often. I love books like this that make me think and reconsider what I'm doing.

I am very interested in this book. At our house, we eat a lot of food that is homemade, including breads and soups. I don't usually buy too many prepackaged foods, but I admit that we don't eat as many veggies as we probably should. I'd like to read this to see if I am doing it right, and also to get more background and information on the food I eat. Thanks for reminding me of this book. It's one that I really need to read!

Thats interesting as its something which I have been thinking about lately.

I signed up to a organic box scheme 3 weeks ago and its amazing how quickly my habits have changed in that short amount of time. Although I am cooking from scratch everynight now I am for the first time in ages actually enjoying cooking.

I read his earlier books, but not this one because I think the premise is basically the same. He is very sane and I agree with most of what he says. I'd add eat local to the list. Even if your local farmers use pesticides, they aren't using them in the amounts that the commercial growers are. Shop at your farmers market and you'll avoid most of the unpronounceable additives.

I haven't read this but I love his line about "Eat Food. Mostly Plants. Not Too Much." This is something my stepdad (one time very active member of the Boston Vegetarian Society) has quoted often. I think I'd probably LEARN little from reading Pollan's book BUT I think it might be great to read if only to recommend to people who aren't "in the know" on food. Even as a vegan, I often find myself buying frozen, easy stuff because it's...well...easy! I should not do! Thanks for this review...maybe I do need to read the book after all! ;O)
