I read this book about 5 or 6 years ago and I would have to agree with your thoughts regarding it. I kinda thought it was good, but certainly not great. Have you read the Afghani novel The Patience Stone ? I read it last year and really enjoyed it.

I’m sorry to see this isn’t written better, because it’s a book I’m really excited about. I’d still like to give it a try.

I haven’t read much about the women of Afghanistan(other than sections of Muslim Women Reformers) and think that this book sounds really interesting and engaging. It sounds as if the story is very complex, especially the sections that focus on the women. Glad to hear that you mostly enjoyed this book because now I want to add it to my wish list.
