Great review! This book sounds like it has a really unusual plot and a lot of gripping action in it, and I am very curious about it. Though it is a bit gritty, I think it sounds really interesting, and I am glad you ended up liking it. It does sound like it touches on a lot of hot button issues.

My emphasis in school is social justice issues just like the ones described in this book. And it's so true: there are so many systemic problems that perpetuate injustices and distorted ways of thinking in our society. I could rant on and on about these problems and the horrible results they have on innocent people, but I'll spare you. I'll just say that this sounds like a really interesting and moving book.

You made it sound good in spite of the crude and the violence stuff, but I don't think I'd seek it out because of those things. On the positive side, Quattro Formaggi sounds like a pizza to me....

I don't know... this sounds like something I would normally avoid. Even if people are uneducated, they should know the difference between right and wrong and exercise compassion and clear thinking.

Thank you for your great review, Meghan. I have a copy of I'm Not Scared on my TBR shelf and am looking forward to reading it one of these days. I am not familiar with this one at all, but it sounds like I might like it too--especially keeping your review in mind so I can get past that first bit.
