I didn’t really like Empress Orchid when I read it few years ago, but I don’t really remember why now. I think that I would probably skip this book, as it sounds a little plodding and I am not very interested in continuing on in this story. I am sorry to hear that this one was less impressive to you, and hope that you find more great books set in China very soon. If I can think of any to recommend to you, I will let you know!

This still sounds fascinating, even if it’s not as strong as the first book. I love books set in Asia.

I’ve probably allready said, but I really enjoyed the first book too. I’ve heard lots of comments about this one not being so good though and it’s put me off, especially as I didn’t really think there needed to be a second book. And it’s darker, ooo maybe too dark for me then – I jsut remember all her horrible egg training in the brothel and the story about the mistress who got all her limbs cut off and was put in a vat.
