This is a book I find myself rereading on a regular basis. You’re right about its old-fashioned feel. That’s always been part of the magic for me. It also ties in with the overall sense of loss that pervades the book, the sense that a magical time is passing away along with the unicorns. I love it.

I used to love the animated film of this as a child, and since then I have thought about reading the book. Really sounds like my kind of thing. Thank you for reminding me.

Twice now I have tried to read Beagle and I just can’t get to a point where I enjoy him. One day I am going to try rereading this one and hope it was a mood thing.
