History is written by the winners and this sounds like yet another example of that axiom. I have vaguely heard of the Long March, but am not familiar with the details. It sounds like I will have to read this book and investigate them.

Oooh - Jennie at Biblio File recommended this to me after I reviewed Philip Reeves' Here Lies Arthur, because she said it was a real-life example of the mythmaking process the book dealt it. I've been dying to read it ever since, and like you, I have become interested in China lately (mostly for work-related reasons). I have not heard of the march, though it does sound fascinating. I have read a lot about China, but I am recently discovering that there are whole areas of it's history that I know little to nothing about. I really liked this review and am thinking about adding this book to my reading list. I loved the way that Shuyun interviewed people and put a personal face on the March. OMG, some of the stories made me sob too. Of course, I'm a softie for anything war-related.
