I’ve never read a medieval mystery before. From everything I can see, The Queen’s Man sounds like the perfect place to start! I’ve been infatuated with the medieval period since forever and I’ve been a mystery fan nearly as long. How can I lose?

Good review. I’m a big fan of Sharon Penman as well. You’re right that the mysteries are not on the same level as the epics. But I still really enjoy them.

I read this series a number of years ago. Initially I was disappointed with this book, but by the last book in the series I was hooked and very disappointed that there were no more books. Particularly enjoyed the appearances of Eleanor of Aquitaine in the book.

I know Penman is one of the best at historical fiction, but I struggle with the genre for some reason.
