I too have known about Tom Thumb most of my life. I agree with hiedenkind, he was actually fairly lucky to have led the life he did. I’ll have to look for this book.

This sounds fascinating! I didn’t think any circus performers made that much money or became that well known. It sounds like he lived the good life.

I’ve heard of Tom Thumb. I really doubt either he or Lavinia would see themselves as “exploited”–more like very lucky.

What an unusual story, and one that I find fascinating to read about! I would love to read this book, and the fact that it is also filled with pictures and descriptions of the times makes it all that much better to me. I am so glad you enjoyed it and will be looking for it. It would be great to share this with my daughter as well!
