I wondered about the origins of her name myself, but I’m not sure how to contact the author, who is from Sweden. I thought the name might mean something else or be common in Swedish, but I have no idea and google didn’t help when I looked!

Checking dictionary.com, it lists the first meaning of “euthanasia” ca. 1600, Greek, as a happy or easy death with a first use of it in our modern sense in England, mid-1800s. Still makes me curious why it was chosen as a name – kind of reminds me of Anathema Device in Gaiman/Pratchett’s Good Omens!
