Have you read The Return of Martin Guerre by Natalie Zemon Davis?  That&#039;s another microhistory that&#039;s pretty good.  Davis was the historical consultant on the French film (which was later adapted into Summersby), and she was inspired by the movie to write a microhistory of the incident.  Peasant Fires: The Drummer of Niklashausen is another really good micro-history of a guy who said he had visions of the Virgin Mary and tried to rebel against the Church, only to be burned as a heretic.
