I have not heard of either of these, but I have added them to my wish list! I will be the first to admit that if it’s not medieval, I probably don’t know much about it, with the exception of Tudor England. My history major in college was very open, so I did more or less as I pleased, and as a result I’m very specialized!

Poor little witch.

Have you read The Return of Martin Guerre by Natalie Zemon Davis? That’s another microhistory that’s pretty good. Davis was the historical consultant on the French film (which was later adapted into Summersby), and she was inspired by the movie to write a microhistory of the incident. Peasant Fires: The Drummer of Niklashausen is another really good micro-history of a guy who said he had visions of the Virgin Mary and tried to rebel against the Church, only to be burned as a heretic.
