24 hour Read-A-Thon, October 2008 – I’m in!

read-a-thonAfter much deliberation, I decided to join the 24 hour Read-A-Thon, which is beginning this Saturday at 12 pm GMT!  It looked like so much fun last time and I could clear out my schedule this weekend, so I’m all for it.  I will admit that I am completely incapable of staying up for 24 hours, so I will probably be falling asleep into my book at some point, but I’m going to do my best to read as much as possible, and I’ll keep you all updated on my progress here at Medieval Bookworm.

Some of the books I’m thinking about reading:

  • The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham
  • Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safron Foer
  • The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever by Julia Quinn
  • Hotel du Lac by Anita Brookner
  • and anything else that is short and quick!

Not sure what the Read-a-Thon is?  Well, it’s hosted by Dewey at The Hidden Side of a Leaf and you can check out the FAQs here.  Thanks Dewey!  You can sign up right here if you’re interested.  You don’t have to read; you can also sign up to be a cheerleader.

I’m planning on doing it too, although I can guarantee that I will not stay up 24 hours. I need to make my book pile! Last time I did that like a week ahead of time. Wow, I’m so not ready this time.

  • I vote that you read The Painted Veil; it’s a really wonderful novel. Unfortunately, I can’t participate in the Read-a-thon this time around; I have too much else to do this weekend. Happy reading!

  • I’ll be reading, too. I’m never going to be able to make the full 24 hours, but I’m going to try. My 10 year old son is going to do it with me, and he is certainly not staying up all night, but I told him he could maybe stay up with me til midnight or maybe a bit later, if he’s reading. We’ll see how it goes. I’m really looking forward to it.

  • I LOVED The Painted Veil – great choice!

  • Hi Meghan!

I’m one of the read-a-thon helpers and I’ve been visiting participants to make sure they don’t forget it’s this Saturday already. It’s clear that you haven’t, and it’s great to see that you’re excited about it!

  • I don’t think I could stay up for that long- do they have a reading challenge for old ladies like me who need to sleep? :-)
