My older kids (10 and 12) had a HUGE argument last summer because LM10 couldn't find $3. He insisted that she took it, she denied it ... it escalated ... you can imagine! A few hours later he sheepishly came downstairs and apologized to her ... he had found the money in a book.

We didn't bother lecturing him about the accusation and the back-and-forth with his sister, because we were so pleased he apologized unprompted!

I love bookmarks and have collected them for quite a while, so I have a huge accumulation. I like to laminate the ones I use frequently, so they stay relatively intact and new-ish (not good for antique markers, of course). I've been guilty of using money as a bookmark, too. And forgetting about it. But it's always nice when you open up a book years later and find the cash!

I'm in the "pristine" group. I used to collect a ton of bookmarks. I still have them around, and it's fun to look at all the goofy ones I picked up. You wouldn't believe how many Star Wars bookmarks I have! :-)

I like to try and keep my books in good condition and have bookmarks all over the place and would never ever write in a book , I cringe when I see my Partner reading Books the spines are bent back the pages are dog eared, funny but my books are the only part of my life where I am a perfectionist :)

I used to treat books worse when I was younger, too. I don't know why, but suddenly I decided I wanted my books kept nice. I even quit underlining my favorite passages, and have replaced all the ones where I did so in ink. Maybe crazy, but I once spent hours erasing all the notes I made in my own books with pencil.

I am a terrible dog-earer (is that a word? If not, can it be?). The only books that don't get horribly abused are the ones that are signed by other authors!
