I love Robin McKinley. I found Beauty when I was 14, and have randomly worked my way through most of her others. I wasn’t crazy about Spindle’s End, and Rose Daughter was a strange second take on Beauty and the Beast, but my all-time favorite is Deerskin. Seriously, if I have to pick a favorite book, that might be it. I haven’t read Dragonhaven yet, and I see there’s one called Chalice that I was unaware of, but if you liked The Hero and Crown and Sunshine, you should definitely keep reading her work.

Congratulations on your new job! Those first few weeks are especially rough. I started a new job the Monday after we returned from our honeymoon and that was a rough way to start a marriage, believe me.

I loved McKinley’s Beauty when I first read it, and Rose Daughter a little less so, but I’ve never read any of her other books. Probably time to start checking them out of the library.

Why must our work always cut into our reading time? Don’t the powers that be understand how important our reading is to the world?!

It’s always disappointing when we have to work and can’t do what we love (reading) full time. Look at it this way though, by working you have the $$$ to buy more books. A silver lining I guess. LOL.
Anyway, I also read Sweetsmoke and wrote a review. I read your review and it was terrific!! Isn’t his website well done? I’m also a fan of B. Cornwell so I think we have some things in common. Have a great week and happy reading. I’ll be back with my students soon and then I’ll be in the same boat as you. (no time to read).
