I really do want to read Dracula, especially considering how much I loved Elizabeth Kostova’s The Historian. I just got it for my Sony E-Reader, so I’ll be reading it on my next trip – thanks for the recommendation!
“Jane Eyre” is amazing. It’s one of the few books that I was forced to read for school that I actually ended up liking!
All the HPs, the Austens and Gaimans… you’ve got an interesting list. But, ow could you neg Moby Dick? It’s the first book my 15-daughter-read that sealed her fate as a bibliohile! She was seven and rooting for Ahab, by the way.
Amy – American Gods is my favorite of his work, followed very closely by Good Omens, although I’m not sure if that one should count!
S. Krishna – I hope you like it! I think you will, though. =) Just remember that it’s a Victorian novel and it’s not actually that scary because our idea of scary things has changed.
Kathleen – Completely agree, and now I’ve read it countless times. It’s one of my two favorite books.
Kool-Aid Mom – I hated it! And I only read the abridged version, which was supposed to cut out all the boring bits. I’m glad it made your daughter a bibliophile, though, we could always use more of those.
