It sounds like things are starting to come together. I think it would take me awhile to get used to a commute too. I’ve never had a very long one, fortunately, at the most half an hour drive. I’ve been going home for lunch lately because my dog is older and not managing as well as he once was. It’s cut very much into my reading time. I used to use my lunch hour to read, and now I don’t have that uninterrupted time anymore. Audiobooks aren’t enough of a regular staple for me to remember to listen on my short drive home and back to work, I’m afraid. Maybe someday.

I am quite protective of my reading time on my daily commute! As much as I am pleased to see my friends on the train I also have moments where I realise that I am not going to get to read and I am disappointed! lol

The first few weeks in a new job are always a stress. The commute will at least give you time to unwind

It can be hard to get used to a new routine, especially when it involves messing with our sleep. But I’m glad that you’re getting more time to read, as a result, on your way to work. I know my own job (by virtue of it being part-time and also usually starting later in the day) allows me to read more too, and for that, I’m thankful.

Meeting a lot of new people is always exhausting and when you put getting accustomed to a new situation as well as a long commute on top of that it’s a bit much. Hopefully you’ll acclimatize soon and it sounds like your new job is going to make for a better everyday professional life.

PS. Root beer, that’s so cool. I’ve always wanted a float.

“learning a new process and meeting new people and getting used to everything is flat out exhausting.”

I know the feeling. During my first few weeks at my current job all I could ever think was, “I can’t wait for this all to become routine”. I feel that three months in I’m FINALLY coming to that stage, and it’s such a huge relief.
